I am a strategic financial executive with 30 years of accounting, financial and operational leadership experience in a broad range of industries. I have been a CFO for most of my career and started out in public accounting as an auditor. I am still an active certified public accountant (CPA).

My approach is to listen first and understand my clients’ goals, and then help them prioritize and develop plans to achieve those goals on route to reaching their definition of success.

Sometimes my clients tell me that success means overcoming an obstacle such as loss of certain customers or returning to past profitability. Many times, establishing sufficient liquidity and capital is an urgent concern. In other cases, the entrepreneur or management group simply needs a fresh perspective to guide them in achieving growth or implementing a big decision. Of course, there is a personal side of many of these topics, which may include restoring the ability to pay distributions to owners or preparing for a successful exit. It all comes down to knowing not just what but why objectives are targeted – and then pursuing them with both financial acumen and dogged determination.
Some examples of significant initiatives that I have led, and their resulting benefits to my clients and employers, include:
  • Sourcing and closing mortgage and asset-based loans to fund new projects or to replace bank facilities that were no longer in covenant compliance due to adverse industry conditions
  • As interim CFO, improving the operations of a mid-sized managed care organization, running sale processes for that company due to governmental-imposed losses, and working with a strategic buyer to close sale and accomplish a crucial gain for its sponsor
  • Assisting in turnaround planning and execution for a family business in recovery from losses arising from industry events, achieving a break-even within 18 months
  • Leading a successful $150 million NYSE IPO of a nationally prominent homebuilder and developer, followed by secondary share offerings that accomplished profitable exits for venture capital investors. I also raised $3 billion of public and private debt for this public homebuilder
  • Designing and implementing a finance and accounting function for a health plan that previously outsourced its administrative functions
  • Working with leadership of specialty finance/leasing company to optimize net returns and improve and expand product offerings

Since 2015, my focus has been on providing fractional CFO services to private companies in industries including manufacturing, distribution, real estate, construction, fintech and web application development. 


I started my career in the accounting and audit division of Arthur Andersen & Co. I am a graduate of the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Previously, I held executive financial positions at mid-to-large companies including:

  • EVP and CFO of public health insurance managing general underwriter and virtual TPA
  • CFO of commercial real estate developer and investor
  • VP and CFO of public early-stage technology development company (bio-mass to fuel producer)
  • EVP and CFO of public community developer and home and high-rise condominium builder
  • VP and Controller, CFO of private builder/developer
  • Business Development Lead at equipment leasing and financing company

Jim and I worked together for more than a year at a St. Petersburg-based manufacturer. As part of the Executive and Strategy Team, we reported to the CEO and Board of Directors. During our tenure there, Jim exemplified superior professional competence in all areas of his assigned duties and other roles he stepped up as our business challenges developed. I consider him as a truly ‘proactive’ CFO. His financial forecasting abilities together with keen issue-spotting and correct analyses enabled our company to avert many potential impediments to our company transition which was accomplished efficiently and effectively. Jim was highly regarded by our private equity company, all of our C-level executives, and his many direct-reports. Jim also contributed his time and considerable expertise to develop the professional competencies of his key team members, ultimately resulting in meaningful promotions for several of those he trained.
