Ginger Mentzer

Small businesses need financial leadership to stay on course with strategic objectives while successfully navigating day-to-day operational demands. Effective strategic planning, sound financial reporting systems, and effective operational policies and procedures are keys to this success.
I work with clients to meet these challenges mainly focusing on:
  • Financial Management, Reporting, Forecasting and Budgeting
  • Improving Profitability
  • Preparing for the Next Phase of a Business’ Life Cycle
  • Liquidity and Cash Management
  • Restructuring and Refinancing Debt
  • Developing Strategic Planning Tools and Benchmarks
  • Implementing Systems and Automating Manual Processes
  • Resolving Problems
  • Creating Sound Policies and Procedures
  • Building Cohesive, Motivated and Accountable Teams
  • Regulatory Compliance

I am a senior-level executive with extensive financial, operational and management experience who brings strategic leadership and delivers results using a goal-driven, well-vetted, efficient and collaborative approach. I am an enthusiastic leader with a high level of integrity, drive and commitment. I am a Florida-licensed CPA, with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Specializing in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration.

Since joining the Florida CFO Group in 2016, I have continued working with small to medium-sized businesses. Although I primarily work in service-related companies, I have completed significant project work in healthcare and manufacturing industries. In addition to my in-depth financial management expertise, my experience extends across virtually all operational areas.

Prior to joining the Florida CFO Group, I was fortunate to work for small to medium-sized private companies in the CFO role for almost 20 years, allowing me the opportunity to work across entire organizations with significant interaction with customers, shareholders, boards and their committees. I spent many years in the banking industry, and during the most challenging regulatory environment in our history, received high marks from regulatory agencies and audit firms for balancing compliance and profitability.
A few accomplishments where I have led or played an integral role include:
  • Quickly establishing department, systems and procedures for a multi-entity, time-sensitive temporary line of business for a client whose existing accounting and finance function were at capacity, and acting as CFO for 18 months before it transitioned to the existing infrastructure as a permanent line of business
  • Developing treasury conversion plan reducing disbursement bank accounts from 30 to 4, and proposed a reduction of 20 additional deposit accounts given loan requirements and activity levels.
  • Providing expert report and testimony in bank lawsuits involving CFOs
  • Transforming of a "troubled" institution to a "well-capitalized" institution by assisting in raising $7.6 million of capital and developing strategies to reduce expenses by $170,000 per year
  • Growing deposits, loans, capital and investments, doubling asset size and earning $3.9 million in net income in a three-year period
  • Selecting and converting a core processing (operating) system, financial and ancillary systems; negotiation of five-year contract savings over $500,000
  • Improving liquidity concentrations and increased unsecured and pledged borrowing facilities
  • Improving ROA by restructuring departments and reducing redundancies and non-value-added tasks, implementing cross-training, establishing written procedures, and ensuring timely reconciliation and clearing of all accounts
  • Developing a human resource department where I introduced competitive benefits for recruiting and maintaining a talented team and implemented a professional development plan process to ensure employee career and performance goals were established, maintained and achieved
  • Converting financial statement reporting, streamlining payable and fixed asset processes, and improving strategic modeling accuracy and depth of information

I joined the Florida CFO Group in 2016 with over 25 years of experience in accounting and finance, primarily in an executive leadership capacity. I am a certified public accountant (CPA) and a member of the AICPA. I earned a Bachelor of Science from Glassboro State College, specializing in accounting, and an MBA from the University of South Florida.

Professional Experience: Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer, Internal Auditor, External Auditor, Corporate Secretary, Financial Institutions, Marketing and Servicing Companies, Healthcare

Although I can help you with just about anything from a financial or operational perspective, my expertise is in:

  • Financial Management & Reporting
  • Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Budgeting
  • System Implementation and Automation of Manual Processes
  • Liquidity Management
  • Loan and Contract Negotiations
  • Creating Efficiencies and Establishing Standard Policies and Procedures
  • Strategic Planning
  • Fulfilling audit, examination, loan, and due diligence requests
  • Working with regulatory agencies

Ginger is a detail-oriented person with skills, knowledge and enthusiasm for her profession. She adapted quickly to a different business and made valuable contributions to the organization. She would be on my short list of CFO's.

- Tom Randle Executive Coach & Strategic Planning

I worked with Ginger for approximately 3 years, where (together with a few other key players) we turned around a struggling bank. Ginger knows her craft (accounting) well and is hard-working, detail-focused, and results-oriented. She understands and balances the importance of gathering meaningful information and including others to make key decisions ... and then has the confidence, resolve and judgment to make routine and critical decisions in timely and appropriate manners. Ginger expects much of herself ... and the best from others ... and this led to a successful turn-around.

- Jeffrey Carter Senior Vice President, Commercial Lender

I hired Ginger Mentzer as our CFO Consultant and have known and worked with her now for over two years. She has become an integral part of our advisory team and has helped our business in a variety of ways. Working closely with our bookkeeper, she has thoroughly reviewed our financial statements and made necessary adjustments that were overlooked by previous CPAs. She was able to recommend a new CPA with whom we are much more comfortable. With her banking background, she has been able to negotiate with two banks for two of our businesses for great terms to refinance loans. She continues to monitor our financial statements and offer recommendations for cost savings and increased profitability. Ginger is a tough negotiator which makes her a great asset to our team. She always maintains a professional working relationship with me, my hospital administrator and our bookkeeper, and we are happy to recommend her without hesitation to any CEO needing assistance with all things financial.

- Mark C. Brown, DVM, CCRP - Owner - Central Animal Hospitals & Tampa Bay K9 Rehabilitation Center

We hired Ginger in May of 2018 as the CFO for our organization. She quickly established herself as an insightful and resourceful presence on our team. Ginger has spearheaded and brought to completion a number of key projects including renegotiating our credit facilities, establishing accounting and cash flow management procedures, budgeting processes, and aligning our employee benefits with our long- term objectives. She has also proven to be attentive and helpful to our employees as a whole on a variety of issues. I and my other tax advisors rely on her counsel for any major financial decision for our organization, and she is an integral part of our year-end tax planning. I wholeheartedly recommend her work and feel we are fortunate to have her as a part of our team.

- Kevin M. Stein CEO, Dale Holdings Corporation, Inc.

I am pleased to say how much Ginger was able to help our organization as we grew from a small regional company based in Tampa to become a leader in Seniors Healthcare.  The Managed Division was a key driver in our success, and she was a key leader assisting me through several transitions.  I appreciate all she did and would highly recommend her services to any organization needing a financial transitions leader.
