CFO PARTNER

Bill Gilmour

Companies often find their growth potential stalled when they lack the foundation and infrastructure to scale their business. I help these companies get moving again by applying my expertise.

My Primary Areas of Focus:

  • Strategic planning
  • Investor relations
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Business model transformation
  • IPO processes
  • Business reorganizations and turnarounds
  • SaaS/software industry
  • PE and venture capital
  • International operations

I’m a results-driven executive with a bias towards action. My accomplishments reflect superior business acumen and a demonstrated commitment to organizational growth in a multi-unit international environment. With a broad industry background that includes manufacturing and technology, I’ve worked primarily with small and medium-sized organizations in the U.S., Canada and Denmark.

Operationally oriented, I am effective in analyzing and implementing systems, strategies and processes to improve gross margin, operational performance and profitability. I’m also highly skilled in negotiating strategic partnerships, M&A activities, and both public and private capital raising. When needed, I apply my strategic M&A skills to accomplish initiatives including multiple liquidity exits and strategic acquisitions, a software IPO, private debt and capital raising.

As a partner at Florida CFO Group, I also actively seek out short term special situations such as turnarounds and restructuring, capital raising and M&A advisory services.

I have over 30 years of financial and accounting leadership experience with multi-unit internationals, software as a service (SaaS), manufacturing and technology companies. Some of my noteworthy professional accomplishments include:
  • Participating in and leading numerous exits and acquisitions of manufacturing and technology companies to create strategic value through leveraged transactions (exits at above market EBITDA multiples)
  • Managing negotiations, performing due diligence and completing a strategic acquisition that returned 400% to shareholders in just over two years
  • Working with a CEO to complete the successful IPO of MAPICS, managing investor relations, increasing the number of analysts reporting on the company from three to nine within a year, and increasing market cap by 450% in two years
  • Building a finance team into an operationally efficient, lean and highly productive value-add part of the business, now recognized by a Big 4 audit firm as “probably the best run company we have seen of this size”
  • Managing a business model transformation to improve visibility and predictability, improving the gross margins on new business, and providing improved visibility and predictability of operating results

I received a Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University and have a CPA, CA designation. I joined the Florida CFO Group in 2019. Prior to joining the Florida CFO group, I had my own consulting firm that provided interim and fractional CFO services

Before I began providing CFO services on a fractional and interim basis, I was CFO of NWI TCC Holdco, LLC, an acquisitive PE backed specialty manufacturer and distributor in the building supply industry. I was brought on board to assist them with an M&A transaction and actively participated in three add-on acquisitions. I have also been CFO for the following software companies:

  • APTARIS, an enterprise promotion and marketing management SaaS company
  • SAXOTECH Inc., an international SaaS/software company that provides content management systems, circulation and audience management systems for the media publishing industry
  • Alogent Corporation, an image-based payments software platform
  • MAPICS Inc. (now Infor), an international ERP software platform that I took public on the NASDAQ exchange

Testimonials

“When Bill and I first started working together in 2022, Sourcetoad had grown quickly and I felt like I was losing visibility into the financial side of the business. We had good people and good systems, but we didn’t yet have the level of financial structure, reporting discipline, and strategic financial insight that a company our size needed.

Bill stepped in and immediately helped reset the standard for what “good” looked like. In our first meeting he laid out a clear picture of the financial controls, reporting cadence, and executive-level financial insight that a well-run company should have. Over time we methodically built that foundation.

The biggest change was credibility and clarity in our numbers. Our financial reporting became something the executive team could rely on to make decisions, not just something we reviewed after the fact. Bill also became a valuable part of our leadership discussions, helping translate financial data into practical business guidance.

Bill was also integral during our M&A process. Because the financial foundation was already in place, we were able to present the business clearly and confidently, and Bill played a key role helping guide the process from the financial side. His involvement helped the transaction move forward efficiently and with far less friction than I expected.

Over time Bill has become far more than a fractional CFO. He is a trusted advisor who understands our business deeply, participates meaningfully in executive conversations, and has been a mentor to me personally as a CEO.

For a founder or CEO who knows their company needs stronger financial leadership but isn’t ready for a full-time CFO, Bill brings the structure, insight, and partnership that growing companies need."
